Peace Ceremony 2009

Each year, the entire school gathers for a peace ceremony.  This year was no different.  Our peace ceremony was held on September 23rd.

In preparation of the day, children made peace signs, researched peaceful figures in history and create posters and sign with messages of peace.  On the day of the ceremony, the children gathered on the field in the back of the school.

Debbie Senoff-Langford began the ceremony by telling the children about the United Nation's International Day of Peace and how it was celebrated by children around the world who gathered to light candles and sings songs of peace.  RPMS was part of that celebration.  Debbie lit a candle and one of our elementary students read a peace poem, while our middle school children helped raise the peace and world flags.  Flavia and two of her helpers led the school in singing I've Got Peace Like a River.

Our peace ceremony is a lovely tradition to set a tone of peace, compromise and community for the children as the school year begins.
