Language Skills

In the 6-9 Program, language skills are developed through reading, daily journal-writing and a full complement of grammar materials. The class has an extensive library of books, children's literature, non-fiction and reference books. Children strengthen their reading abilities through a combined approach of whole language and work in phonics. The 6-9 program complements the Montessori curriculum and materials with programs including SRA and Write Source (a systematic approach to writing instruction).

In the 9-12 Program, children expand their language skills through advanced work in literature, different genres of writing, and developing presentation skills. Students follow the Montessori curriculum and use the Montessori materials in developing their skills. The curriculum is complemented with programs including SRA, Write Source and Daybook (critical analysis of literature).
