Middle School Program

The Middle School program reflects Montessori principles as they relate to this age group, and the curriculum is designed to ensure academic excellence and developmentally appropriate practices. The program is designed to be integrated, holistic and is reflective of the needs of the adolescent.

As with all our programs, Montessori psychology, methodology and philosophy are the cornerstones to our practices. The curriculum format takes into consideration the cognitive, physical, psychosocial and moral aspects of this age group.

The Center for Education Policy defines a well-rounded middle school education by breaking down the proportion of content areas to time spent during the school day:

  • Academics (content) 32%
  • Skills (critical thinking, problem-solving, team work, listening, organization, leadership, computer knowledge and writing) 33%
  • Character building (emotional well-being and ethical behavior) 20%
  • Hands on experience (real experiences, service to the community, peer teaching and internship) 15%

These areas also reflect how the Montessori Adolescent program is divided at RPMS.

We are proud that our Middle School students go on to attend Walter Payton, Whitney Young, Lane Tech, Jones College Prep, Northside College Prep, and other outstanding local high schools.
