Extended Day (Kindergarten) Program

The Extended Day Program is for children who are age 5 by September 1st.  It enhances the special learning in Montessori preschool during the child's third, or kindergarten year. Five and six year olds, who are leaders in the morning 3-6 classroom, challenge their intellect and extend their attention span in the afternoon with activities designed for older children.

After the morning preschool class is dismissed, Extended Day students eat lunch and spend time together outside or in the gym. After the break, they resume work that includes:

  • Group discoveries and discussions of cultural subjects
  • Reading
  • Math
  • Cooking projects and science experiments
  • Spanish
  • Nature walks, and many more exciting activitie

Extended Day allows children to utilize the skills they have learned over the last two years such as applying beginning phonics, beginning writing and numeric skills to more advanced work.  The class is staffed by one certified Montessori teacher and one assistant.
