Frequently Asked Questions
What is Rogers Park Montessori School?
  • RPMS is a non-profit, non-sectarian, parent-governed school providing programs for children in the Montessori philosophy. (More about us)
  • RPMS was established in 1966 by a group of parents in Rogers Park. The school moved to Edgewater in 1975.

Where is Rogers Park Montessori School located?

  • The school is currently located at two sites in the Edgewater community where we have been for 35 years.

What do we do at Rogers Park Montessori School?

  • We provide affordable, non-sectarian, Montessori education.
  • We offer programs in early childhood education (2-year-olds) through 6th grade elementary.
  • RPMS currently enrolls 180 students.
  • Our early childhood program is our largest and serves two-thirds of our student body.
  • Usually, only schools subsidized by religious organizations have more affordable early childhood programs.
  • We offer daycare and after school care as well as summer programs.
  • Our future goal is to offer middle school, which our parents strongly support.
How do I apply for my child's admission to RPMS? What are the admissions requirements?
  • One important criterion for admission is space. We are currently maintaining a waiting list for some of our programs, especially Toddler and 3-year-old programs. Admissions preference is given to siblings of currently enrolled students as well as families who demonstrate a long-term commitment to RPMS. See the Admissions page for more details.

How much is tuition? What does "Montessori" mean?
  • Montessori refers to its founder Dr. Maria Montessori who was an Italian physician and her philosophy of education.
  • Montessori Method describes a method of education, which stresses the importance of early childhood learning.
  • Montessori classrooms have special materials, which are designed in a way that enable children to have a hands-on experience with different concepts.
  • Montessori teachers at RPMS have special training in this method in addition to having university degrees.
  • Montessori schools have gained in popularity and relevance over the last 30 years worldwide. Many communities in the United States use the Montessori Method in their public school systems. Montessori programs focus on academic achievement, creativity, independence and respect.
  • Montessori students are welcomed by local elementary, middle and high schools as it is common knowledge that these students are adaptable, innovative and self-disciplined.
Who are the Parents and Families in the RPMS community?
  • They are families from all walks of life and are economically, culturally and religiously diverse.
  • Our scholarship program is 1% of our operating budget. It is used to help already enrolled families who are in need of tuition assistance.
  • Our families are expected to pay tuition in order to meet our operational expenses. Tuition is held to a very competitive rate. A family ability to contribute additional funds does not impact their acceptance to the school.

  • Edgewater Community Counsel
  • Care for Real
  • Principal Network
  • Senator Carol Ronen Early Childhood Task Force
  • CAPS
